iGet Mobile in action

Everything on your Mac now fits in your pocket.

iGet Mobile is a personal server application that runs on your Mac, and allows you to easily and securely access your Mac's documents and files from your favorite mobile device. It works with any decently web-capable device (including Windows PCs), but has—naturally—been designed with a special emphasis on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

iGet Mobile lets you connect back to your Mac and access the documents and files you need, wherever you happen to be. It sports a simple and intuitive interface, based on the original award-winning iGet interface, and adds a layer of intelligence geared toward mobile devices.

The original iGet has been recognized as "brilliant"[1], "indispensable"[2], and "the best way we've seen to conduct Mac-to-Mac file transfers"[3]. Now, for the first time, iGet is moving beyond the Mac. iGet Mobile makes the stuff on your Mac available to you anytime, anywhere... even when you don't have a Mac handy.

With iGet Mobile, we've taken care to preserve the "60-second learning curve." So, while iGet Mobile gives you a sophisticated web interface to your Mac, secure SSL encryption, and great Mac savvy, you can be up and running 60 seconds after you download iGet Mobile to your Mac. Try it now!

Your Mac... on your phone.

This iPhone can only hold 8GB, but here it is browsing over 2 terabytes of data, connected to a Mac back at the office, via iGet Mobile.

Most people have a whole lot more useful stuff on their Macs than they do on their phones. But it's not practical (or usually possible) to cram years worth of documents and files, adding up to many gigabytes, onto these devices.

But with iGet mobile, your Mac becomes an extension of the device in your pocket.

So you don't have to worry about which subset of all of your documents you might need when out and about without your Mac—because they're all available, all the time.

And while WiFi is always preferred, iGet Mobile's lightweight web interface also works well over slower links, like the EDGE network.

Here we see an iGet Mobile user, stuck with Aunt Vivian's Dell machine, using iGet Mobile to get something to read from his Mac at home.

Your Mac... on Windows.

Most of us have to use Windows at some point in our lives. Maybe at work, maybe at school, maybe at Aunt Vivian's house... whatever.

The good news is, with iGet Mobile, accessing your real computer is easy. Just fire up Firefox or some other Windows browser, and connect to your Mac.

Browse your stuff, and get what you need. iGet Mobile can even convert some Mac file formats to something easier for Windows to handle.

It isn't quite as pretty as on an iPhone, of course, but it totally works.

Smart data conversion on the fly.

iGet Mobile can convert many file formats, including different image formats and several different document types, to standard formats that most devices can use.

Sometimes it isn't enough just to get access to your Mac files, because the device you are using doesn't understand them. Or, it may have a screen size that just isn't suitable for the content.

iGet Mobile can help in these situations, by converting many file formats into a more ubiquitous one, like PNG or PDF.

It can scale large images down to size, too, which not only helps view them on smaller screens, but also saves bandwidth and makes your download faster.

But this data conversion is always optional—if you want to download the full, umodified file from your Mac, you can.

iGet Mobile makes it easy to remotely command your Mac to email files to yourself or to other people.

Email files from your Mac.

iGet Mobile has a built-in email engine that can send files directly from your Mac, to you or to other people.

Emailing a file to yourself is very handy with devices like the iPhone, because it keeps a copy of the item on your phone all the time. You can refer to it later, even if you don't have network access (in a subway station, say, or at the beach).

Other times, you might know you have a file that somebody else needs, but you don't want to have to go back to your Mac just to send it to them. With iGet Mobile you don't have to; you can just connect to your Mac, find the file, and have it emailed directly to whatever recipients you wish, without interrupting whatever else you are doing.

Strong security lets you rest easy.

iGet Mobile uses SSL encryption to protect your data.

iGet Mobile uses industry standard SSL encryption, to provide full-time protection against snooping. To get you up and running fast, iGet Mobile can automatically create a self-signed SSL certificate that is used to encrypt your data and keep your files safe from others.

If you have your own SSL certificate for your Mac, iGet mobile can use that instead.

And like any good Mac citizen would, iGet Mobile uses the system Keychain to store your email password, so it isn't compromised.
